School Games & Competition Code of Conduct

The School Games provide an excellent opportunity for all young people to take on a role and make a positive and active contribution to their school. Whether as an athlete, leader, official or coach the School Games hopes to engage everyone - whether they see themselves as 'sporty' or not.

The School Games can provide additional opportunities for schools to work in partnerships with other schools, organisations and businesses as well as within and across communities to promote learning and well-being. 

 

Code of Conduct for all Schools competing in the Cumbria School Games

By entering a Cumbria School Games Level 3 competition your school and any accompanying adults are agreeing to adhere to this Code of Conduct.

By agreeing to the Code of Conduct we ensure correct sporting behaviour and attitudes are demonstrated by ALL staff and students involved in the Cumbria School Games.

 

Coaches/Teachers/Team supporters/Volunteers

Do

Show high standards of behaviour within the spirit of the games

Respect officials and their decisions and encourage fair play

Place the well-being, safety and enjoyment of each athlete above everything else

Take responsibility for the children placed in their charge

Support and encourage all participants

Respond to any concerns about any young person’s welfare, always acting in their best interests

Do Not

Engage in public criticism of officials

Engage in or tolerate offensive, insulting or abusive language

Publically criticise a player for making a mistake

Enter the field of play without permission

Pupils

Play by the rules and always do your best

Accept decisions made by officials

Treat your opponents with respect at all times

Accept victory or defeat with good grace

Stay at the school games venue unless accompanied by a member of school staff

It is the responsibility of each school to ensure that pupils and their team supporters abide by this code of conduct. Please remember that many of our officials are students themselves and volunteering. They have received training prior to this event.

Any genuine complaints or concerns should be directed at a member of the event management team.
